Portugal v France LIVE: Scores and latest goals updates from the crucial Euro 2024 quarter-final

The second quarter-final of Euro 2024 is another exciting match in which France, the winner of the 2018 World Cup, will take on Portugal, the 2016 European champions.

Didier Deschamps’ men have managed to reach the last eight without scoring a goal from open play, with two own goals and a Kylian Mbappe penalty enough to see them through tests against Austria, the Netherlands, Poland and Belgium. Their narrow win over Belgium in the last 16 lacked quality and excitement, although the French will be encouraged by several missed chances and the fact that Mbappe has regained his form since suffering a broken nose.

By comparison, Portugal needed penalties to beat Slovenia in the round of 16. Roberto Martinez’s team struggled to create chances in their first knockout match, with Cristiano Ronaldo in particular missing good chances, including a missed penalty in extra time.

The match will be a battle of generations, with Mbappé taking on Ronaldo, but both teams know they need to improve if they are to get the job done tonight.

This is probably one of Ronaldo’s should not have to take. Have to cross it from here.

He clearly doesn’t, and he lands straight into the wall.

Fortunately, Vitinha scores a corner, after which France replace Randal Kolo Muani with Marcus Thuram.

Costa does well again to catch the ball from Kante. After that attempt by Camavinga there have been few real chances.

Ronaldo drops deep to influence the game, but we know how that often works out. The problem is, would Goncalo Ramos be more effective?

Semedo does well to win a corner, and Silva will take it. He delivers the in-swinging cross, but Maignan punches it away before Palhinha slides on Mbappe and concedes the foul. He is also shown a yellow card for it.

If Portugal reach the semi-finals, he will miss the semi-finals. That is also something the English referee will look at critically.

Euro 2024: Portugal 0-0 France

Conceicao has moved to the wing, while Bernardo Silva has dropped more centrally. It feels like a strange choice to drop Fernandes and replace Cancelo with Semedo, even though they are in the same position.

Portugal may have had possession for long periods of time, but they seem too static in attack at the moment.
