It was a wedding to remember. A 15th century Irish castle outside Dublin, decorated in a Robin Hood theme. A green, multi-tiered wedding cake piled high with fondant leaves and apples — designed by British artist Damien Hirst — ceremonially cut with a saber. Two baroque thrones for the bride and groom. But perhaps the most memorable detail of all: the newlyweds wore matching purple Antonio Berardi outfits for their reception.
This, of course, was the sacred union of Victoria and David Beckham. The British power couple tied the knot in 1999, merging the worlds of fashion and football forever. Though their marriage is still going strong 25 years later, the couple have come to regret a few minor details from their big day. Most notably, their aubergine-colored ensembles. “I even had a purple top hat,” David said in a 2017 interview with BBC Radio 4. “What was I thinking? I looked like the guys from ‘Dumb and Dumber.'”
Victoria agreed. “It just seemed like a really good idea at the time, you know?” she told Jimmy Fallon in 2021. “I think it was naivety at the time. We didn’t know anything about fashion. We were just having fun with it, and honestly, that’s kind of true.”

The couple shared their throwback photos on Instagram.
But time heals all wounds, as was proven today when the couple pulled out their original reception looks in honor of their silver wedding anniversary. In photos shared to Instagram, Victoria and David posed in their purple slickers in front of their wedding day thrones. “Yep, I still have them!” the couple wrote. “I can’t believe it’s been 25 years and they still fit!”
Fans loved the sartorial throwback. “When people say iconic this is what they should be referring to,” one wrote. “Wearing purple on your wedding day. Only the Beckhams could pull that off,” another added.
There was another similarity. Despite the passing of a quarter century, the two still look lovingly into each other’s eyes, and look positively plum-colored.
